Linda, a collector of vintage posters for more than forty-five years, turned her passion for collecting into a thriving business. She graduated from New York University where she majored in art and studied under notable artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Louise Nevelson, and others.
“In 1973, after moving to my current home, I was at an Art & Antique Show (no internet in those days). It was then when I stumbled upon the booth of a jewelry dealer. The backdrop of the booth was overlaid with 6 large Vintage Posters. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking at, but I was definitely infatuated.
I quickly called my husband who was roaming somewhere through the aisles. When he came over, he was in awe, as I was. We then asked the jewelry dealer – Neil Lane – ‘Are those for sale?’ Neil smiled, and said yes.
Being that it was so difficult to choose which magnificent poster to buy, we just bought them all. Perfect for the walls of our new home! That marked the beginning of my lustful journey into the collecting world of Vintage Posters.”
Elie is the past chairman of the authentication and vetting committee of the International Vintage Poster Dealers Association setting the world standards for collecting vintage posters.
“In 1980, after relocating to the New York Metropolitan area, I realized blank white walls were not my style. Linda, my partner at a different business recommended hanging large Vintage posters on my walls.
I asked her, ‘How much are they?’ She said promptly, ‘A few hundred dollars each’. ‘Each? Are you nuts?’ I replied. ‘Still less expensive than wallpaper!’ she snapped back. ‘But let me show you something even better…’
Our taxi arrived at MOMA minutes later. 4 floors up, we entered a large room exhibiting some Vintage Posters. I was in awe.
‘These are what I’m talking about,’ she exclaimed as she pointed to the walls. Now I understood.
That was the beginning of my addiction to Original Vintage Posters. Following that experience, I purchased my first Vintage Poster, a 1892 ‘Carnival’ Poster by Jules Cheret, which I still own to this day.”
Honey was born on July 4th, 2005. At approx 6 months old, Honey went on one of her first of many (est. 50) business trips to Europe. Honey was a princess, she only flew Business/First Class, and boasted her European Passport. Honey was an absolute lady; she sat politely at the tables of some of the finest 3 Star Michelin Restaurants including ‘Le Pré Catelan’.
After a very fruitful career, our beloved long-coat chihuahua’s heart gave in. Honey passed away at the young age of only 11 years. Honey’s sister, Lulu, happily runs the shoppe today in the West Village with her younger sibling Jolie. As the matriarch of the family, Honey may be gone but never forgotten.
In 1985, while partnered in a separate business, Linda needed a change. “I want to work around something beautiful,” she dreamed. So, within 6 months, we opened La Belle Epoque Vintage Posters, Inc. at its first location in Englewood, New Jersey.
Once business started rolling in the late 1980s, we relocated to New York City on the Upper West Side (73rd & Columbus).
After more than 20 years on the Upper West Side, we moved downtown to the West Village/Meatpacking District. Come say hello.
Here at La Belle Epoque, we love working with the community. We’ve organized several museum exhibitions, and have been interviewed by prestigious newspapers such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, etc.
All of our Vintage Posters are guaranteed originals. We do not offer reproductions. We offer only authentic vintage advertising posters made for the original advertisement – Certificate of Authenticity included.
We also buy original Vintage Advertising Posters. Feel free to contact us, but please include full Details and Price when inquiring. We do not make offers. Thanks!
