Comical Play in the Early 1900s.
Plot: when a husband gets so bored with his country life, he’s willing to do ANYTHING for an occasional night off in the city.. Including adopt an illegitimate child. The story ends surprisingly happy for a German original, as the main character adopts SEVEN children.
Adapted from German by A. Bourchier, the farce opened in London in 1896 to what a local critic termed ‘much mirth.’ Several years later, when the play had crossed the pond to play in America.
