This original Austrian Art Nouveau period poster for Atelier Rosa Moderne photography is a stunning example of the work created by the designer and multi-talented artist Hans Neumann. This wonderfully composed image features a bright red chair on the left hand side with the same bold red repeated in the main typography at the top of the poster and in the thick lines underlining information on the advertiser’s location on the bottom left. Sitting in the red chair is a rosy-cheeked young woman with her feet up, gazing adoringly at a photograph of a young man; two other photographs are seen falling to the floor by her side. The use of a stark, light background with bold reds and blacks, gives this vintage lithographic advertisement a distinctly modern feel.
Hans Neumann was a prolific Austrian lithographer, as well as a screenwriter, film director and producer. While living in Vienna he created his own advertising studio, which quickly became a successful agency. He designed many posters for festivities, companies, exhibitions, dances, performances, films and fairs.
This original lithograph was printed by Neumann for the Society of Graphic Industry, Vienna; published by Gesellschaft fur Graphische Industrie, Vienna 1919.
