Belgian Art Nouveau Wine & Spirits Advertising Poster, 1900s

This is a Belgian Art Nouveau period advertising poster for Vieux Systeme Marque “Twit Stoopke” created in 1900. It features a realistic image of three jolly looking Belgian’s leaning on a wooden railing while indulging in a bottle of gin. They are all dressed in wooden clogs with dark socks, brown trousers, bright red shirts, a green neckerchief, and brown caps. Each man grins at the viewer and holds a small glass, with the man in the center holding a bottle of Vieux Systeme – Twit Stoopke. Behind them, represented in dimmer colors, is a harbor filled with boats, and to the left of the harbor is a row of houses. The top of the image is filled with a beautiful cloudy sky with the lettering for the liquor boldly written in a deep gray colored typography. This is a wonderful example of a Belgian Art Nouveau period poster that utilized the realistic colors and representations that were explored by artists during that time.
Side note: these days, this bottle of gin sells at a pretty high price point. Dubbed ‘The ‘Father’ of Gin’, you can expect to pay upwards of $250 to have this shipped to your home. Check out the link here.
