Belgian Vintage Travel Poster ‘Dover-Ostend’ by Hohenstein, 1907

SOLD

Out of stock

Princess Elisabeth (Princesse Elisabeth) was the first turbine steamer ferry constructed in 1905 for travel between Ostend-Dover. She was used in both WWI & WWII, and was employed for fast military transports between Dover and ports in Flanders. The company closed its operations in 1997, and sold to TransEuropa Ferries, but closed permanently in 2013.

Currently, there is no car-ferry service between South East England and Belgium.

The poster itself shows 3 women on the deck of the ferry waving farewell. Extremely rare poster that tells a fantastic story.
