French Belle Epoque Horse Show Advertising Poster for ‘Concours Hippique in Ville de Nimes’ by Pal, 1890s
Two gentleman dressed in Red jackets and black top hats competing in Steeplechase/Hurdling fiercely on the track. The poster shows the racers in air – one jumping over the hurdle, and the other landing on the ground after a successful jump.
One of the horses is white, and the other is brown.
This is a stunning and exquisitely made French Belle Epoque period poster for a horse show in Niemes. Concours Hippique was created by the prolific designer Pal (Jean de Paleologue), and features two stunningly detailed horses practically jumping out of the foreground. The two riders are beautifully dressed in the classical equestrian style, with their red jackets creating a vibrant contrast with the muted yellows, pinks and blues of the background, further emphasizing the movement of the riders and their horses.
This original lithograph was printed by Paul Dupont, Paris and Published by A. Geauterin & J. Bernard, Paris, Nimes 1914. This poster’s image starts one and a half inches in from the edge of the paper.
