English Art Deco Pantomime Advertising Poster ‘Mother Goose’ 1939
SOLD
This is an English Art Deco period poster printed by Albert Taylor & Sons Printer of Wombwell in England for the famous English pantomime play Mother Goose. The tone of this humorous and endearing poster is set by its playful orange and red background, which dominates much of the piece. In front, there are three cartoonishly depicted characters – a goose, an old lady, and a young boy – looking wonderingly at a large golden egg. Above this scene, Mother Goose is written in bold yellow font.
Mother Goose is a Classic figure of English culture, an imaginary figure author of collections of fairy tales and nursery rhymes often published as Mother Goose Rhymes. This is a wonderfully charming poster that embodies the playful qualities of the Mother Goose figure.
Printed in England, 1939.
