This is a French Mid-Century Modern period Travel poster for Air France featuring a map of the world. It is an intricately detailed image that features two blue hemispheres set on a deep red background. Air France’s routes are outlined in red on each hemisphere; small ships, clouds, planes, and a gold sun representing the equator develop a both playful and deeply beautiful representation of the world. Throughout the background are small detailed scenes of cultures from around the globe. A blue banner with “Air France” written inside connects the two hemispheres at the top of the poster, with a compass perfectly positioned in the middle of the three.
This travel poster was printed by Perceval, Paris, 1950. This image was used a few times in the 1950’s by Air France – 1950, 1952, etc. This vintage poster is from the first printing – 1950.
