Music of Jules Massenet’.
This opera was performed at the Opera Comique. The story is about a young man (Beaumarchais) with ‘many loves’. Beaumarchais’s character is inspired by ‘The Marriage of Figero’.
Cupid seems to be laughing at what is about to happen.
Leloir has filled the poster with romantic props, scrolls, flowers, a lute, and cherubs. Notice the scarf of the cherub acting as the backdrop for the artist’s name.
