A travel poster by Lucien Lefevre, for Nice, located on the Cote d’Azur (The Blue Coast) on the Mediterranean. The poster advertises travel to the Parisien in the winter time – l’Hiver a Nice, while Nice’ temperature (similar to Florida, USA) is 10-20 degrees higher than Paris.
With the arrival of train transport in the Industrial Revolution, travel posters became vital in advertising areas outside of Paris to the local Parisiens.
In the top in block lettering, gold/black letters spell Winter in Nice. On the top right, little angels are holding the Nice flag, while the entire background shows the rising of the sun over the Mediterranean water. Notice the people strolling along the beach on foot/horseback, with the tall white sailboats in the distance.
On the left is a young lady fanning herself in a typical Mediterranean outfit, yellow dress, blue top, red scarf (held by the floral brooch) & gold hat.
On the bottom, block lettering advertises a beautiful rendering of the local casino and municipal theatre, horse racing, festivals, carnivals, shopping, holiday festivities, etc.
The picturesque scene represents the beauty of Nice, with palm trees, blue birds, flowers, and the feel of a magical resort.
