Indian Vintage Travel Poster for Udaipur ‘Visit India’, c.1950s

This is a Mid-Century Modern period travel poster for the city of Udaipur, created by the Indian government in the 1950s. The poster features one large image of a riverside scene, with a city across the river and in the background. In the foreground are three women, two are down by the river one is bending over to catch some water in her jug, while the other is kneeling in front of the river. The last woman is standing, facing the other direction, with a water jug balanced on her head. They are all dressed in exquisite and vibrant colors of red, yellow, orange, green, blue and white. The imagery of this poster, combined with it’s exceptional use of color, transports the viewer into a timeless day in Udaipur down by the Ganges.
