Actress; at one point the highest paid female entertainer in the world. She entertained at the Folies Bergere, Moulin Rouge, and was at one time, the sweetheart of Maurice Chevalier.

Van Caulaert paints Mistinguett in her rags before riches street urchin persona for her appearance in Ca C’Est Parisien (That’s Paris), at the Theatre Mogador.

Theatre Mogador was founded in 1913 as a Music Hall called the Palace Theatre. However, inauguration guest Franklin D. Roosevelt renamed the theatre after the street it is on in 1919 (accompanied by President Wilson). Currently, this theatre shows Broadway shows (Cats, Grease, Hello Dolly, etc.)

In the last 40 years, this theatre has been known for French productions of English/American Broadway theatre shows.

In this charming portrait, you’ll see her blond hair, ragged clothing, holding a broken umbrella, and wearing a cute hat.
