This artwork is from Les Maitres de L’Affiche series; miniature versions of outstanding stone lithograph artworks of the most important advertising posters by the finest artists.
This is one of several posters by Fraipont for the Northern Railroad Company, announcing excursions to Pierrefonds, Compiegne and Coucy-le-Château. The artist, in a pleasant painterly style, depicts the wondrous historic sights of the area. The vibrant greens of the landscape set against a brilliant blue sky, contrast well with the elegant old-style type, set in red and yellow. This Brussels born artist was a painter and illustrator in Paris where he collaborated on Le Courrier Francais and other revues. He also created numerous posters, largely for the French rail.
