This artwork is from Les Maitres de L’Affiche series; miniature versions of outstanding stone lithograph artworks of the most important advertising posters by the finest artists.
A distinctive French style is used to announce the Exhibition of Artistic posters of Wilhelm Söborg. In a style very much like Toulouse-Lautrec, Fischer has taken us into the cafe/bar, with the elegant men and ladies seated against a warm backdrop of soft orange. All under the watchful eye of waiter number two. A seated gentleman in the foreground reads his paper, which ingeniously tells us of the exhibition, his drink within reach, his top hat and coat hanging nearby. Using minimal colours and great drawing skill, the artist lets us feel the atmosphere of the time and place.
A wonderful example of Fischer’s work.
