Pictured is a women using her name Pathe-Baby camera capturing a great moment.  You’ll see the proud horse rider jumping over the steeple with the dog by their side.  This beautiful fall scene includes lots of yellows, with the camera operator wearing a blue outfit.  Even her bright red lipstick shows in this gorgeous poster.

Pathe-baby was an amateur film camera that was cranked.  It was the smallest format of its kind, earning the word ‘baby’ at the end of the name.  The projector was in such high demand, Charles Pathe decided to fill that need with this home-ready product.

in 1924, Pathe-baby’s first film was created/directed by Jacques Pathe & Roger Pathe.

The 9.5mm film became the standard choice of film after the raging success of this product.  They continued to sell the Pathe-Baby until 1946 until the high end cameras replaced it with the Webo M.  Once sales in 9.5mm declined, the company moved on to using 16mm, and then shortly after the Super 8.

The famous director Jean Pierre Melville is quoted saying “the Pathe-Baby camera allowed me to make movies at the age of 6.”  His first movie was shot in his apartment shortly after 1924 with the camera he received for Christmas.
