This artwork is from Les Maitres de L’Affiche series; miniature versions of outstanding stone lithograph artworks of the most important advertising posters by the finest artists.
This alluring avant-garde design is announcing an exhibition of Oliva’s own works at the well-known art gallery ‘Topicuv Salon’ in Prague. A beautifully rendered, red, angel like, face seems to shimmer with a glowing artist’s palette, between the textured olive panels. Wonderful type is created, especially in the title, to complete this haunting composition
“It was from this city (Prague)…that the avant-garde, united in ‘Manes’ union of artists, produced some good posters. For his own exhibit…Oliva created a fine composition praised by Von zur Westen which was (included) with another of his works, Zlatá Praha (see PL.176), in Les Mâitre de L’Affiche”)
